Now you probably don’t need any more reasons to visit Alaska than you already have, but just incase you need that extra boost to book your tickets and come on up, here are five reasons you should visit Alaska this summer!
1. Moose Calves
Seeing a baby moose trying to walk around and learn how to use its tiny legs is the cutest thing. They’ll be out and about in the summertime with their mommas, learning the ropes and getting photographed more than celebrities’s on vacation. Just be careful and enjoy their cuteness from a distance; momma moose doesn’t want anyone near her new little ones.
2. Daylight
We aren’t called The Land of the Midnight Sun for nothing! In the summertime, the days are longer so you can pack more fun into your trip. Want to go fishing after dinner? Go on ahead, you’ll still have plenty of light! And speaking of fishing, here’s number 3!
3. Fishing
You’ll never find a better place to fish than in Alaska. From lakes, to rivers, to the sea, there’s a variety of fish to catch and they’re delicious. You can get trout in a lake, fish for salmon in the famous Kenai River, or head out and reel in a scrumptious halibut. Check out Groupon for deals on charters and more, they book up fast!
4. Wild Flowers
There is such a beautiful variety of wildflowers in Alaska that carpet many areas during the summer. You will see vibrant pinks, purples, blues, and more in the various flowers that spring up. A few of my favorites are lupine (pictured below), fireweed, and our state flower, the forget-me-not. They add even more beauty to an already incredible landscape. I’d suggest getting Canon Rebel to get good photos, or check out my photography site to have photos of these flowers sent right to your home.
5. People
Last, but not least, you will meet a ton of fun and interesting people. People from all over the world come to soak in Alaska’s beauty over the summer, and it’s so great to visit with them and get ideas for your next trip, learn about other places, and even get advice on where the next stop on your Alaskan vacation should be. Plus, not to brag, but us locals are pretty great, too. The majority of us are very willing to help out and give you advice along your way; telling you the best spots to eat, where to stay, what you need to go out and fish, and more (and the ones that aren’t probably are not from here anyway! 😉 ).
I hope this has given you the push to book your tickets and come visit us in the largest state in the U.S. (we’re pretty proud of that)! I can promise you that it is well worth your while, and will be the trip of a lifetime.
