All my memories of summer are of outdoor activities. From fishing, to jumping rope, making mud pies, to playing in the sprinkler, I took advantage of the season and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Considering summer is on it’s way, I figured there was no better time then now to create a list of some of my favorite outdoor toys that your kiddos can use make their own summertime memories. Summer is only so long, so why not spend it outside!
Chalk
This simple way to do outdoor art can entertain kids for hours. It encourages creativity and you can even use it to practice lettering, math, and more to keep up skills during summer break!
Jump Rope
Fun exercise?!? Who knew that was possible? With these adorable jump ropes, kids can get outside, get exercise, and have fun doing it!
Water Slide
A hot summer day calls for some water toys, and what better toy to get than a water slide!?
Sprinkler
My favorite way to cool down on a hot summer day is with a sprinkler. And now you can even up your sprinkler game with an elephant, unicorn, or even a dinosaur sprinkler!
Twister and a Picnic
Grab this Twister Picnic Blanket, a picnic backpack, and head outside for a game and some food!
Kite
Don’t let the wind keep you inside! Grab a kite, embrace the wind, and get outside!
Fishing Pole
Fishing is one of my favorite summer pastimes. There’s nothing better than grabbing a fishing pole, heading to the dock, and spending some quality time fishing with family. Don’t forget the tackle and tackle box! 🙂
Camp Chair
It may not be a toy, but every kiddo needs a good chair to take camping with them.
Lantern
If you’re going to be out camping, it’s nice to have some light with you, so why not give a mini one to you’re kiddos as well.
Sleeping Bag
In keeping with our camping theme, we might as well add a sleeping bag to our list as well! Camping is no fun if your cold, and getting a good sleeping bag will keep kids warm, comfortable, and happy!
Sports Balls
Introduce your kids to a variety of sports and get some great time outdoors with a basketball, football, soccer ball, or better yet, all three!
Basketball Hoop
Get some use out of that basketball by getting a toy that’ll grow with them! This basketball hoop is adjustable so it will last you though many unforgettable summers.
Baseball Set
Work on coordination and have fun while doing it with this great kid’s baseball tee!
Frisbee
Fun, easy to store, and inexpensive! Who doesn’t like frisbee!
Bean Bag Toss
Adults love it, kids love it, it’s a win win! Bean bag tosses are a fun way to play a game and get some outdoor time as well!
Bike
The ultimate outdoor toy: a bike. The wind in your helmet, the scrapes on your knees, the clank of the training wheels. That’s the life. Give that joy to the kiddo in your life with a bike and create many lasting outdoor memories.
Wagon
You can pull your kids in it, your kids can pull their toys in it, you can have hours of fun if you get a wagon!
Hula Hoop
Go “old school” with this fun kids toy! There’s a reason they’ve been around awhile. Hula hoops are the simple, fun, and entertaining!
Scooter
Your kids will be crusing around the neighborhood all summer with this awesome scooter!
Golf Set
Summer is a great time to get out on that green grass and get some putt practice in!
Slide
Slide into summer with one of the best outdoor summer toys, a slide!
Rockets
Stomp rockets! Head outside and get those rockets flying with some stomp rockets.
Squirt Guns
Cool off with a neighborhood squirt gun party!
Sand and Water Table
Don’t have a beach or lake nearby? Bring the sand a surf to your backyard with this sand and water table!
Beach Toys
Grab some additional beach toys to play with in the mud, sand and water table, or at the beach!
Play Kitchen
Who’s ready to make some mud pies! When I was younger one of my favorite things to do was use my play kitchen to make mud pies, dandelion salads, and rock soups. Play kitchen’s are an outdoor summer toy that is guaranteed fun, so let’s get cooking!
Water Balloons
Chill out with a fun and friendly water balloon fight, or drop them from your porch and see them go splat!
Skateboard
Pick up a skateboard for your kid and you’ll give them hours a day of outdoor activity. Don’t forget a helmet as well.
Bubbles
Bubbles!!! Need I say more?
Airplane
Airplanes are fun to build, fun to fly, and even more fun to race! Grab a few and head outdoors for a friendly flight competition!
Last, but not least, don’t forget to buy some sunscreen to avoid those sunburns while your and your family are enjoying time outdoors!
I hope this list gave you some good ideas of outdoor summer toys to get for your kiddos. And if your wondering about what to do on those rainy days, check out this list of great books to read!

I love these ideas! A lot of these we already get for spring, like chalk, squirt guns, bubbles, bikes, and balls. We’ve got to replenish our beach toys though. I don’t even know where all the sand buckets end up from last summer.
Everyday Alaska says
Thanks, Tiffany! Those are great spring toys! It is so hard to keep up with where everything ends up after summer sometimes, haha.

I love all these ideas. My boys are 14 and 18, so we are beyond toys. However, I do have an 18-month-old nephew I buy for. Thanks for sharing!
Everyday Alaska says
Thanks, Heather! I hope you found some great ideas for your nephew, that is a fun age!

Great list! So many of these are things I enjoyed as a kid back in the 90s; I’d love to see more kids today putting their iPads down and trying some of these out.
Everyday Alaska says
Thank you! Same here, I think we had a lot more fun with the toys in the 90s!
